The Dom Sandwich: Fresh Mozzarella, Tomatoes and Prosciutto

The Dom Sandwich. One of our absolute favorite sandwiches!  Since my kids love to eat Italian sandwiches from time to time.  I thought we would revive this one from our archives.

This is my son’s favorite creation, a fabulous sandwich that he enjoys making at lunchtime.  He calls it the Dom Sandwich!

The Dom Sandwich is made with layers of sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, Italian cured meat called prosciutto di SanDaniele, topped with a drizzle of garlic-flavored olive oil, and a touch of fresh black pepper all on French baguette bread.  One fantastic sandwich to try!

Prosciutto di San Daniele is an Italian cured meat that is leaner (less fat), sweeter and contains less sodium than the Prosciutto di Parma.  It’s so tasty, you can absolutely eat it all alone.   By the way, this is why we have to buy more than 1/2 pound of this meat at a time.

You can find Italian cured meats in any Italian Pork Store or any Italian Specialty Market.  You can also use prosciutto di Parma, or add any Italian cured meat with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and a touch of garlic-infused olive oil, and you have one hearty delicious sandwich.

Try any variations you prefer.

Enjoy!

The Dom Sandwich: Fresh Mozzarella, Tomatoes & Prosciutto:

  • 1 French baguette -cut into 4 pieces or to any size you prefer

  • 3 ripe tomatoes – sliced 1/2 inch thick

  • 1 package fresh Imported Mozzarella – sliced

  • 1/4 to 1/2 pound Prosciutto di San Daniele – thinly sliced

  • extra-virgin olive oil – flavored with garlic

  • fresh ground black pepper and salt to taste

Slice open the baguette to any size you prefer.

On the top side of the baguette, lay 2 to 3 slices of prosciutto.

On the bottom side of the baguette, add sliced tomatoes.

Lay on top of tomatoes with slices of fresh mozzarella.

Add some fresh ground pepper and a pinch of salt to taste.

Drizzle some garlic flavored extra-virgin olive oil on top of mozzarella.

Close the sandwich.  Enjoy!

  1. What a delicious sandwich to use our (now ripening) garden-fresh tomatoes. It's been so rainy, that we are just now picking our tomatoes! Like you, I have to buy a lot more prosciutto too! Would you believe that prosciutto in Italy costs about what we pay for simple packaged sliced bologny here in the States. Plus, the Italians only export the 2nd or 3rd quality prosciutto to other countries, keeping the highest quality (at bologny prices) in Italy. It's crazy!!!

  2. oh my word that looks insanely delicious and I so does that pistachio ice cream I see below it. Girls girls NEVER EVER think I am anything but over the moon with joy for ya'll. I could care less if you were able to do the like on the FB page a few weeks back. I am sorry I am just now responding to the comment you made asking if I was upset! BY NO MEANS am I upset! No worries!
