About Fried Ravioli…

We grew up eating fried ravioli.  It was and still is a popular Italian appetizer.

Our mom made these every time our parents had a gathering, and everyone enjoyed them as if they were eating potato chips.  Seriously.

Crunchy on the outside, melted cheese filling on the inside.  SO GOOD, they are addicting!

  • Simply pick up a package of the fresh ravioli, which are located on the shelves in the refrigerator section at any local supermarket.

How to Make These Easy Fried Ravioli?

1.  First, open the package.  Then you will need to work with a few batches of ravioli at a time.

2.  Next: prepare the egg wash and bread crumb mixture.   Simply dip each ravioli into an egg mixture then into a bread crumb mixture.

3.  Fry them up!  Then lightly fry the ravioli up in a skillet heated with oil until golden brown on both sides.

4.  Finally, warm up your favorite marinara sauce!  Pour some marinara sauce (our mom’s quick marinara sauce is ideal for this recipe) into a small bowl.  Stir in some crushed red pepper, or sprinkle some red pepper flakes directly on top of the sauce and place it on a the platter next to the fried ravioli. And serve.

Easy to reheat them too!   These are super easy, crunchy, and delicious!

Questions and Answers…

Where can we find a Package of Fresh Ravioli?

You can find various brands and various sizes of ravioli in the refrigerated sections in most supermarkets.  These happen to be the smaller-size ones and cheese-filled.

But you can use any size ravioli you prefer.

Can we use Frozen Ravioli?

Even though I have not used frozen ravioil, the answer is a yes.  You can thaw them first, and follow the directions in our recipe card below.

Can we use an Air-Fryer?

Yes, you may! You will have to do this in small batches, arrange ravioli in a single layer on a greased tray in an air-fryer basket; sprayed with cooking spray. Cook at 350 degrees, until golden brown, 3-4 minutes. Turn; spray with cooking spray again. Cook until golden brown, 3-4 minutes longer. Remove and serve.

*Quick Note about the Air-Fryer: …every appliance is different with different instructions, including if you are permitted to use a cooking spray or not. So, keep in mind, always check when following our directions to fry ravioli in your air-fryer appliance.

    1. Hi Debbie,
I know our mom and aunt did use the frozen ravioli once, but they threw them in the oven and baked them. I don’t know if that was easier, or because they were frozen. But I would think it would work, simply because most “Bars and Breweries” take our “frozen mozzarella sticks” already breaded and throw them into the hot oil to fry.
So, if I had to guess (and it is only a guess) I would allow them to thaw a little, dip them into the egg mixture, then bread crumbs and fry. Try a small batch first, before you continue with all of them. Please, come back and let us know if they worked. Thanks so much! ๐Ÿ™‚
