What is Tzatziki Sauce?

The tzatziki sauce is a cool, refreshing creamy yogurt sauce that is usually served as a condiment on many Greek meat dishes such as gyro sandwiches and souvlaki. ย

It’s so incredibly creamy and delicious – once you try this yogurt sauce, you’ll want to make it all the time. ย

Nowadays, you’ll find tzatziki sauce is widely used in the cuisines of many other countries other than Greece.

The Tzatziki Sauce…

The most common recipe for tzatziki sauce is easily made with freshly grated cucumbers, minced garlic, fresh lemon juice, fresh dill, and Greek yogurt.

The longer this yogurt sauce sits and marinates, the better it gets!

You can make tzatziki sauce a day or two ahead, allowing it to marinate longer while it’s chilled in the fridge.

Another recipe you can try is our Authentic Tzatziki Sauce which is amazingly delicious too!  It’s made with vinegar instead of lemon juice and it truly is amazing.

Tzatziki Sauce is even great to serve on the side as a dip!

Delicious tasting, and one that is even healthier for everyone!

The first time I ever had a gyro (in my life) was at our friends’ backyard party where they hired a food truck (food trucks are growing popular here in Charleston) to sit outside their home and serve fresh-made gyros to all their guests.

Pretty cool, huh?

I thought so too. That day, the gentleman made me a grilled lamb gyro topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce.  And, boy- after the first bite, I was hooked!

Ever since that experience, I’ve been wanting to make tzatziki sauce and try it on my burgers.

What Kind of Turkey is Best to Make Turkey Burgers?

Lean ground turkey is best to make the burgers.  You can find them in most supermarkets, or you can ask your butcher to ground some turkey for you.

What Else Goes Into Making Turkey Burgers?

  • Turkey alone has no flavor and it needs a little help.   I simply mix ground turkey with crumbled feta cheese, minced garlic, red onion, and fresh herbs for this recipe.

  • I even added some chopped spinach into the mixture to get some healthy greens in there.  Every little bit helps!

  • Then shape them into individual patties, transfer them onto a plate, and cover with clear wrap.  Place the prepared turkey burgers in the refrigerator until ready to grill them.

  •  When ready to grill these turkey burgers, place them on your preheated grill and grill until they are fully cooked.

  •  Serve them with slices of crispy lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, and a dollop of creamy tzatziki sauce on top.

Your family and friends will LOVE these Turkey Burgers with fresh tzatziki sauce!

The melted feta cheese comes through as a rich cheese flavor, as in a classic cheeseburger, and compliments the turkey burger very nicely.

We were very pleased with the outcome as the tzatziki sauce takes this burger over the top with its fresh zesty flavors!

You’ll have to try this recipe!

If in case you don’t like Feta cheese, try substituting an equal amount of shredded sharp white cheddar instead.

If you enjoy turkey as much as we do, the try our Turkey Meatballs with Lemon Sauce, they are truly delicious and easy for any weeknight meat.

ENJOY!!
