What are the Health Benefits to Drinking Watermelon!

  • Watermelon contains high levels of lycopene which is an antioxidant that helps protect and gives you younger-looking skin.  The cherry red color comes from lycopene and studies show it may help curb your risk of cancer.

  • It also contains vitamins A, C, and potassium and is considered as a natural energy drink, because it also provides vitamin B6 and magnesium which helps boost our energy levels.

  • Plus, watermelon helps you hydrate.  This is why drinking a watermelon drink is perfect to drink after a good marathon run!

  • Watermelon is also found to be helpful in healing wounds faster, as well as other skin problems. The fruit is packed with the amino acid citrulline, which the body converts to arginine.

  • Arginine speeds the delivery of white blood cells to injury sites, plus spurs the growth of new skin tissue. Study shows that these processes can help skin heal three-times faster.

  • Watermelon even helps improve our sleep at night by increasing our body’s levels of serotonin, making the brain less sensitive to noise.

So many good reasons why we should be eating and drinking watermelon.

It’s good for everyone!

  1. It’s 88 degrees and very humid here in South Florida- I’m a big fan of watermelon juice but I like to add a little lemon or lime to ours to cut the sweetness. Such a healthy refreshing drink! thanks

  2. nothing nicer on a hot day than delish watermelon – so refreshing. We’ll have to wait another six months or so before we can get watermelon again here. And the rind is so useful too; pickled watermelon rind is a treat.

    1. Hi Sherry, we agree!
But you know, we have never heard of pickled watermelon rind before…. how interesting… we will have to look into that. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  3. Do you had a watermelon seed-spitting challenge as a kid? We were really permitted to spit something! What a senseless and entertaining action for the fourth of July or an excursion.

  4. I didn't know that watermelon helps improve sleep! I need to eat gobs of it now! I love watermelon and even if it's not in season, I'll still pick it up in the market if it looks good. It's just such a natural sweet treat and I love it in a squeezed beverage! Have a great holiday weekend!

  5. What I love drinking in summer is watermelon, the first time I read the article about watermelon and it's composition of arginine which might possibly help me and my husband to be more active in bed. In addition to this, I've also read from Dr. Mercola about how a big possibility that l-arginine supplement might really help too. His research are based from the Noble-prize winners Dr. Ignarro, Dr. Murad and Robert Furgotch that tackle about nitric oxide's benefits within our body.

    1. Oh Thank you Diana! I am so glad you appreciate the benefits we mention in our post. I am a big fan of Dr.'s that write about wellness and health benefits with supplements. I've been reading some of Gary Null's books on wellness and how to live a long healthy life as well. Thank you for sharing your info about the l-arginine supplement and Dr, Mercola. I haven't read his book yet, but I would like to pick one up. Thanks again!
