Grilled Salmon on Cedar Planks…

This is an amazing recipe for grilling salmon and since it was my first time ever to eat salmon cooked this way.  I knew we had to try this recipe at home and share it with you.

I met a lovely couple,  Patrick and Gabriella who are two wonderful, creative cooks! I am normally not a big fan of fish, especially salmon, which is opposite from my sister Anna, who can eat salmon everyday.

However, while my new friends were grilling the salmon, the aroma was so incredible as the smoke from the grill permeated the entire yard,  I just had to try it.

To my surprise, the non-fish eater that I am,  I really LOVED IT!  The smoky flavor was so intense, it wasn’t fishy at all.

The kind of salmon I had that night was the Wild Alaskan Salmon, and it was grilled on the barbecue while sitting on top of cedar planks.

A total new technique (which I’ve never seen before) that I witnessed while I was on a business trip in L.A.

Cedar Planks for Grilling Salmon…

The cedar planks is what gave the salmon that smoked flavor that everyone enjoyed!

If you try this method of cooking with cedar planks, you will need to soak the planks ahead of time before using then on the grill.

Wild Alaskan Salmon vs. Farmed Salmon…

  • Buying wild salmon definitely costs more that farmed salmon, but it’s worth it.
  • Wild salmon is not fed with colored pellets and it’s caught in deep ocean waters.
  • Salmon is extremely high in Omega-3’s,  which is highly recommended by the American Heart Association.

So, not only are you having a delicious and impressive looking seafood dish, but your keeping everyone healthy too!

Barbecued wild salmon is wonderful to pair it with a glass of white wine and serve it along with a side dish of either rice, quinoa, vegetables or salad.

It makes a fabulous seafood dinner!

Smoked salmon is even better as leftovers!  Just serve it “chilled” over a leafy green salad for lunch the very next day.

Enjoy!

  1. we love cooking with planks on the grill. We have a big green egg and it is one of our favorite flavors- the cedar or maple flanks. This salmon looks amazing. Perfect for the fall weather we are "supposed" to be getting:)

  2. Your cedar plank salmon looks incredible! This is one of my husband's favorites when ordering out…I'll have to treat him to your version!
