Notes and Tips for SUCCESS!
- Choose a good quality dark chocolate for melting. It will give you better results with this recipe, including better texture and chocolate flavor.
- If you want to use skewers when serving, it’s best to dip the strawberries by hand first, then after they cool down and the chocolate is completely hardened, slip a skewer through the tops of each strawberry.
- Lightly cover them with wax paper, and set them aside until ready to serve. Or refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
- There is no need to refrigerate them for a long time, just let them rest and cool until the chocolate hardens.
- Plus, there is no need for plates or spoons when serving.
Ingredients Needed to Make Them…
- FRESH STRAWBERRIES: Choose a basket of fresh strawberries, about one pound.
- DARK CHOCOLATE: Choose a good quality of dark chocolate, like Ghirardelli chocolate for melting.
How To Make Dark Chocolate-Covered Strawberries?
1. First, you will need to rinse strawberries under cold water, then gently pat dry on paper towels. And set them aside.
2. Next, you can melt dark chocolate either on the stove using a double boiler, or in a microwave. Whichever method you prefer is fine.
QUICK NOTE: The only thing you need to remember is that chocolate “hates” water. When you are melting chocolate, be careful not to allow it in contact with water, it will be unworkable. Also, chocolate burns easily, so it’s best to melt chocolate slowly.
3. Then, take each strawberry, using the stem to handle them easier, and dip 3/4 of the strawberry into the melted chocolate, carefully twirling it to cover the strawberry, and place onto a serving platter lined with wax paper.
4. Set them aside to cool.
Questions & Answers…
- How to melt chocolate in the microwave? Always use a microwave “safe” bowl, and melt chocolate in small increments of 30 seconds, then stir the chocolate each time. Do this a few times, until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Can we use chocolate chips? Yes, but it’s best to choose a good quality for melting.
- Can we dip them using skewers? It’s best to use your fingers to hold the green tips when dipping, simply because the chocolate will be too thick to dip with skewers.
- How long will they stay fresh? Strawberries tend to stay fresh for 24 hours, and maybe up to 2 days. After that, they will lose their appearance.
- Can we freeze them? We don’t recommend to freeze them. They are best when served the day you make them.
