This is a great Italian dish. I grew up on this and still make it today for my family. We also, at times, will add some quartered potatoes to this, and/or pieces of this in addition to the sausage. I usually do two pans. One with sweet Italian sausage and one with the hot Italian sausage. This is always a crowd pleaser.

In reply to Manny. Hi Manny! Thank you for your comment! Sicilian sausages usually contain other spices such as fennel, and yes you can special order those or get them at your local butcher. However, I do not like the flavor of fennel, and prefer the sweet Italian sausages over the spicy ones. My husband is not only Sicilian, he was born and raised there, and his mom, even in Sicily, always made this recipe using local pork sausages. I understand your thought, my husband has the same thoughts when he hears the words "Sicilian pizza." There is no such thing in Sicily as a thick dough pizza topped with sauce and mozzarella. In Sicily, thick dough pizza is topped with onions, anchovies and fresh tomatoes, NO cheese! And it's correct Sicilian name is Sfincione. So glad to hear you enjoy our recipe!! :)

Great recipe. Been making this for years. Just an fyi, Trader Joe sells Italian sausage, both mild and hot. However, that is not Sician sausage, I have only found Sicilian sausage, like the kind that I ate while in Sicily at specialty Italian stores usually made by the local butcher. And there is a taste difference. Your recipe is not traditional and should not be called Sicilian but darn good.
