What are tagliatelle nests and burrata cheese?

Tagliatelle nests are a popular Italian pasta made of long strands of noodles formed into curly little nests. Burrata cheese is a creamier mozzarella that is sold in containers with water. It is a freshly made Italian cheese known for its unique texture: a solid ball outside, with a creamy, spreadable interior. And – it is divine!

Best of all, there’s no need to pre-boil the pasta, making this dish simpler and even more convenient than ever!

This recipe is similar to our baked long fusilli casserole, only it does not require boiling the pasta beforehand. Best of all? It takes only 15 minutes to put it all together, and 20 to 25 minutes to bake, making dinner come together quickly.

Delicious, easy to whip up, and bake! Then serve. If you love Tagliatelle pasta, be sure to try our Tagliatelle with Fresh Tomato & Sausage. It too is divine!

Ingredients Needed for Tagiatella Nests with Burrata

You will need these five ingredients to make Tagliatelle Nests with Burrata casserole. In addition, you will need to add some water to the baking dish before transferring it into the oven to bake. Here are the 5 main ingredients you will need:

  • Tagiatella Nests: Choose one package of tagiatella pasta. The pasta looks like little birds’ nests in the package. And, depending on the size of your baking dish, you will need about 15 nests. (see our notes and photo below)
  • Burrata Cheese: You will need only 1 large Burrata cheese for this recipe. We bought our burrata cheese from Trader Joe’s, but you can find them in almost every supermarket.
  • Olive Oil: Choose extra virgin olive oil for this recipe, and you will only need to drizzle it over the top of the entire casserole before you bake.
  • Grated Cheese: It’s always best to grate your own Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese for the best flavor. And it is scattered on top before you bake.
  • Water: For this recipe, we added some water and drizzled it around the baking dish to provide additional liquid necessary for baking the pasta until tender.

There are four steps to making this recipe for Tagliatella Nests with Burrata.

First, you will need to pour about 2 cups of tomato sauce as the first layer on the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish.

The second step is to set the nests side by side and directly on top of the tomato sauce.

Third, take one burrata cheese ball (some containers sell with either one large or two burrata balls), place it in a bowl, and use a fork to break it into pieces. Next, take a forkful of the creamy burrata and place it on top of each pasta nest. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over each one, covering it entirely. Drizzle some extra virgin olive oil over them, a few tablespoons.

Important Note: Keep in mind, the tagliatella pasta will absorb the sauce in order to cook the pasta. Therefore, you will need to drizzle water around the casserole to give it the extra moisture it needs.

Lastly, scatter some grated Parmesan cheese on top. Cover with foil wrap and bake until the pasta is al dente, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove and serve.
