But, what makes this French toast recipe even more special?
Instead of using just plain sliced bread, we decided to make this French Toast using our favorite bread, delicious bakery-style cinnamon swirl raisin bread. Plus, we upgraded its flavors with adding additional warm spice, vanilla extract, and drizzled on top with hazelnut chocolate – YUM!
We used Nutella, but you can use any chocolate spread you prefer. It adds the perfect of amount of a nutty-chocolaty flavor to the cinnamon and raisin bread, without overpowering it. Delicious!
And to make it even more special, we served it with freshly sliced strawberries on the side โ the perfect finishing touch.
This simple addition not only elevates the presentation, but also turns your breakfast into a warm, thoughtful experience that makes your family feel truly loved.

Recipe Notes and Tips…
- You can buy cinnamon swirl raisin bread from any local bakery or supermarket.
- You can also use your favorite bread with this recipe, like Challah, or our homemade cinnamon swirl quick bread (without the raisins).
- Be sure to slice the bread at least 1-inch thick. This will give you and ensure that indulgent, restaurant-style French toast experience.
- The thicker the slice of bread, the better the French toast will turn out, keeping the center moist.
- This recipe will make 3 French toasts, but you can make any many as needed. Be sure to double the ingredients.
- To lower the calories and fat, use low-fat milk and egg whites.
- Don’t care for have Nutella? Or, don’t have it on hand? No worries. You can use chocolate chips and melt them in the microwave or a double boiler and drizzle some melted chocolate over each slice.

- 1 egg
- 2 ounces low-fat milk or half-and-half
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 jar of Nutella
- fresh strawberries, sliced
- powdered sugar
- olive oil cooking spray, or butter
How to Make Cinnamon Swirl Raisin French Toast?
First, gather all the ingredients you will need. Our full printable recipe card is located at the bottom. But first, letโs run through our easy steps so you will understand whatโs involved before you start.
1. MAKE THE EGG WASH: Make your egg mixture, beating the egg with a few extra ingredients.
2. COAT THE SLICES: Take a slice of cinnamon swirl bread and dipped it into an egg and milk wash, coating both sides.
2. GRILL THE SLICES: Grill it in a skillet for a few minutes on both sides, until golden brown.
3. SERVE: Top each French toast with a drizzle of Nutella and powdered sugar, and served with fresh strawberries on the side. And, serve.

Cinnamon Swirl Raisin French Toast with Nutella
Moist, sweet and perfect, this Cinnamon Swirl Raisin French Toast with nutella is a scrumptious treat! I donโt know whether to call it breakfast or a dessert. A simple and super easy to make -you canโt mess this one up!
Ingredients
- 3 slices, from loaf of Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread, cut into 1-inch thick
- 1 egg
- 2 ounces low-fat milk or half-and-half
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 jar of Nutella
- fresh strawberries, sliced
- powdered sugar
- olive oil cooking spray, or butter for the skillet
Instructions
- In a large non-stick skillet, lightly spray with cooking spray. Take out 3 dinner plates and set them aside.
- In the meantime, lightly beat egg with milk, cinnamon, and vanilla together in a bowl. Turn of the heat under the skillet, and on low-heat.
- Dip one slice at a time into the milk and egg mixture, allowing to soak for a 1 to 2 seconds on each side.
- Place each toast into the skillet and cook for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, or until the toast turns golden brown. Remove and transfer to a serving plate.
- Place a few slices of fresh strawberries on the side onto each plate (or on top of each toast).
- Drizzle with a teaspoon of Nutella over the tops of each toast. Sprinkle with powdered sugar on top of each plate.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
If you are planning to make more than 3 servings, you will need 2 eggs and 1/4 cup of milk.
