Salsa has gained momentum over the years. In fact, it’s become the most popular condiment these days. So why not make it fresh and homemade?
For this recipe, we decided to make it a simple and spicy salsa just by adding in some chopped jalapeno to give it little heat. This is a recipe you can easily adjust the amount of heat to your liking, just by adjusting the amount of jalapenos you add into the mix.
This simple and easy spicy salsa has only has 6 ingredients, and needs only a few minutes of your time to chop the vegetables. Then serve! It is that simple and easy! No need to run out and buy the jar.
Spicy salsa is made with all the fresh ingredients you would expect. Chopped tomatoes, garlic, onion, fresh cilantro, jalapeno and lime juice are all combined in one bowl and then chilled before serving with your favorite chips.
No need to add any salt or sugar (at least I didn’t need to), the sweetness from the juicy tomatoes along with the juice from the lime combined with fresh cilantro gives this salsa a lot of flavor.
Homemade salsa always tastes better when you make it yourself; it’s fresh tasting, very light and makes a healthy snack for the whole family to enjoy!
Fresh salsa also stays fresh for days in the fridge.
You can make a variety of different flavored salsas. They don’t always have to be tomato based. You can make your own variations using chopped veggies. Try adding in some fresh chopped mangos, green peppers, and even avocados into the mix.

- 1 pound small tomatoes on the vine- finely chopped
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 large garlic cloves- minced
- 1 small jalapeno, (or 8 to 10 slices from the jar)- finely chopped
- 1 small onion (1/4 cup) - finely chopped
- 1 small lime- juiced
- In a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients. Mix to combine well.
- Chill for at least one hour before serving. Stays fresh in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days.
- Yields: 2.5 cups
