New York Strip Steak Grilled and Sliced
If you are looking to cook or grill a lean tasty steak, the New York Strip is a great choice. We love a good steak, and let’s just say this one would be right at the top as a favorite, like our London Broil Steak Grilled.
And, it starts with the thickness of a New York Strip steak, combined with its seasonings for a juicy and amazingly tender meat!
Today, we will show you the ease of preparation, seasoning, grilling, and simple slicing techniques for a perfect New York Strip Steak.
What is a New York Strip Steak?
The New York Strip is the left strip on a T-Bone steak. The other section is the filet mignon; the NY strip is a very lean and thick piece of meat. And, it is less expensive than the cost of the filet mignon (about 1/2 the price).

Where to buy New York Strip Steak?
We like to buy the NY strip steaks from our local butcher shop. And, at times we can find them at the meat department of a quality supermarket. But, while shopping for these NY strip steaks, we found the best value for the money was at Costco.
What to look for when buying them?
Always look (or you can request) from your local butcher, a thick cut of the steak, and at least 1.5 to 2 inches. They usually weigh about 1 pound (16 ounces) or more. And, they should not contain too many veins in each cut.
Should we trim the fat or not trim it?
It’s all about preference. But, to make the slicing easier, it’s best to trim some of the fat off the meat before grilling it. This makes the steak much easier to slice and enjoyable, just as the London Broil Steak Grilled.

How To Prepare the Steak for Grilling?
These NY strips steaks are not cheap, and therefore, we don’t want to ruin them. Before you begin, let’s go over a few important steps how to prepare your New York Strip steaks for grilling. Plus, you will need a digital meat thermometer, that will work as well.
- First, allow the steak (or steaks) to warm up to room temperature, for about 20 minutes.
- Next, season your steak with a generous amount of salt and garlic powder on both sides of the steak.
- Then, lightly drizzle with olive oil on both sides.

Also, it is equally important to prepare your grill. So, lets go over how to prepare your grill before cooking your steaks:
- Clean It: Use a very wet rag or a grilling brush to wipe down and scrape the racks to remove any residue from previous grilling.
- Start the Grill: Set your grill to “high” or “medium-high” depending on the size of the grill.
- Preheat the Grill: You will also need to preheat your grill for at least 15 minutes.
Recipe Tips
When grilling good steaks, here are some important tips to help you grill them perfectly.
- When grilling these steaks, the time will depend on a few things: the grill you are using, the steak’s thickness, and preference.
- You need to use a good meat thermometer when grilling, simply because every grill is different in size and in BTU’s.
- Also, we prefer to use a simple Stainless Steel Oven-Safe Thermometer for both our grill and oven use. And, it’s best to use a digital meat thermometer, that will work as well.
