This recipe is original, and because my daughter Lizzy enjoyed it so much, I decided to remake and post it for everyone to enjoy it. ๐
How to Make Skillet Salmon with Chili Sauce?
For this recipe, there are 4 easy steps:
- First, rinse your salmon steaks. Then pat them dry with a paper towel. Season your salmon steaks.
- Next, drizzle the olive oil in a 10-inch skillet. When olive oil is hot, place the salmon steaks top facing down. Pan-sear for a few minutes to give their tops their golden brown color. Then flip them over.
- Pour in the wine, and simmer for one minute. Add in the rest of the ingredients and simmer until the sauce thickens. Turn off the heat.
- Meanwhile, cook the rice. When rice is ready, transfer the rice to a serving platter. Remove the salmon steaks, and place them over a bed of rice. Spoon the sweet chili sauce in the skillet over the salmon and sprinkle with sliced green onion on top and serve.
Ingredients you will need for our Skillet Salmon with Chili Sauce:
- 3 salmon steaks (approximately 1.2 pounds, 510 grams)
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- sea salt to season
- 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp. dried herbs de Provence
- 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
For the Chili Sauce:
- 1/4 cup white wine (any drinking white wine)
- 6 Tbsp. sweet chili sauce ( I used Trader Joe’s brand)
- 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 large lemon – juiced
- splash of water
- 1 green onion – sliced
For the Rice:
- 1 + 1/4 cups jasmine rice
- 2 + 1/2 cups of water
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions (in detail) to make Skillet Salmon with Chili Sauce…
1.First, season the salmon steaks with a generous amount of garlic powder. Scatter over them with sea salt, dried thyme, dried herbs de Provence, and cayenne pepper.
2. In a 10-inch skillet, heat olive oil and add the salmon steaks tops facing down in the skillet. We do this to give the salmon their lovely crispy golden-brown appearance. Cook the salmon for a few minutes, about 3 to 4 minutes.
3. Then flip over the salmon steaks, pour in the white wine, and cover with a lid. Lower the heat, and simmer for about 1 minute.
4. Next, pour in the sweet chili sauce directly on top of each salmon steak. Pour in soy sauce, lemon juice, and butter. Cover, simmer on low heat for about 1 to 2 minutes, until the sauce reduces a little. Add a splash of water, about 1 tablespoon.
5. When the salmon is cooked to your liking. Turn off the heat. Keep the skillet covered to keep salmon warm.
Meanwhile, Cook the Rice:
- Meantime, bring 2 + 1/2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepot. Toss in 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of butter. Slowly pour in 1 + 1/4 cups of rice.
- Cover with a lid, and lower the heat to simmer. Rice will cook when all the water has been completely evaporated, about 15 to 20 minutes. Uncover and stir the rice with a fork, to flake the rice. Remove from heat.
- When rice is done, transfer the rice onto a serving platter.
- Serve the salmon over the bed of cooked rice. Drizzle additional sweet chili sauce over the salmon steaks and sprinkle with sliced green onion on top.
- Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side.
Notes and Tips for Success…
- When purchasing salmon, it’s a good idea to can ask the fishomonger to remove the skin from each piece.
- If you prefer your salmon medium or medium-rare, keep an eye on them while pan-searing.
- Also, if necessary, you can remove the salmon and transfer them to a nearby plate. Then make the sauce in the same skillet, return the salmon to the skillet to simmer with the sauce for about 1 minute. Then serve.
- About the RICE: I prefer to use Jasmine white rice with this recipe. It cooks easily and it’s a very light weight rice and goes perfectly with this salmon recipe.
