Notes & Recipe Tips
- Keep Them in the Freezer: These days, I prefer to keep packages of frozen mini wontons on hand. I found them in the freezer section at Trader Joe’s. But you may find them in the freezer section of your local supermarket. They are available to not only make this soup, but we can bake them and serve as a side or appetizers.
- Variety of Fillings: These mini wontons come in a variety of packages filled with cabbage, chicken, and even mixed veggies. Choose your favorite ones and make this soup! It always turns out to be a favorite.
- Economical: Plus, they’re not expensive at all; they cost around $4.50 to $5.50 per bag. Ideal to buy a few bag and keep them in your freezer.
- Servings: This recipe will serve a family of six. And it is very easy to double the ingredients for larger families.
- Convenient: Mini wontons are convenient to pull out when you need a quick appetizer before dinner, or just when you need to drop them into a pot of soup, as I did here.

Haven’t made it yet. But it’s just me & my husband. Don’t eat a lot except for breakfast (our biggest meal). We’re 72 & 73 we don’t get really hungry during the day. So if u can send us some easy dishes for two, I would appreciate it.
Hi Kathy! And, welcome to our recipe blog, it’s so nice to meet you! I will take a look in our archives and send you some easy recipes for two people. Keep in mind, all of our recipes are freezable for future lunch and dinners. We prefer not to cook every day, so most of our recipes are for servings of 4 or more, with the idea to freeze leftovers for the following weeks. I hope this helps!
I loved this recipe even though I made a few changes. I pre-cooked my Mirepoix (Onions, carrots, & celery) to sweeten them a little before adding the Chicken broth and garlic, and simmering for 6 minutes. Then I used Sesame oil insted of Olive oil to add to the broth right brfore adding the mini wontons and cabbage. Then right before serving I add gold and white corn and top with green onions and sweet chili sauce.
Mickey! That sounds awesome! And, thanks so much! We love your spin to our wonton soup recipe. Sounds Fabulous! Happy Cooking and have a great weekend! 🙂
