Refreshing Orange Smoothie…
I haven’t made a smoothie in a while and was craving for one the other day. Oranges are still in season and we always have our produce drawer filled with them, so why not take advantage of these beauties?
I thought this would be a great opportunity to make a healthier version smoothie using oranges. And, let me tell you – it was a great idea!
Smooth, delicious tasting, and with enough protein powder in it to get me going with my morning. It was perfect! For more healthy recipes for smoothies, try The Green Drink Spinach Smoothie, and Kale Apple Banana Smoothie. And, don’t miss our Beet Spinach Protein Smoothie.
Why is this smoothie healthier?
- Oranges and bananas are naturally loaded with sugar, so it’s not necessary to add additional sugars to this recipe.
- It’s a great combination of flavors that’s loaded with additional vitamins!
- While other smoothies may contain extra sugars from honey, maple syrup, processed orange juice, or sweetened non-dairy beverages, this one does not contain any of those ingredients.
- Instead, this smoothie is made with a fresh orange delivering a delicious orange flavor that’s refreshing and naturally sweet – without any extra added sugar.
BEST PART? This citrus drink will quench anyone’s thirst instantly.
What You Will Need:
For our orange creamsicle smoothie recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
Fresh Orange: you will need to peel and remove all the pith from it (the pith is that spongy white stuff between the peel and the orange). The pith is very bitter and will alter the taste, so it’s best to remove it.
Banana: frozen banana is preferred, but it won’t be a deal-breaker.
Vanilla Extract: just a little goes a long way.
Almond Milk: I prefer unsweetened organic almond milk. Less sugar = fewer calories.
Protein Powder: you can add in your favorite plain or vanilla protein powder.
Ice Cubes: you will need about 4 to 5 ice cubes, or more to make it thicker and creamer.
How To Make It?
Every smoothie starts with a blender, or a food processor to puree all the ingredients at once. Then pour your smoothie in a tall glass, pop a straw and enjoy!
Notes and Tips:
- Smoothies should be consumed as soon as they are made.
- They are not meant to be made and saved to consume later in the day.
- You can freeze smoothies in a container or a popsicle mold and then enjoy them frozen.
