Our Blueberry Banana Bread is moist and loaded with delicious blueberry flavor. The flavor of bananas is subtle but gives the bread its fluffy and moist texture.
We love banana bread, and this one is adapted from our Ultimate Banana Bread Super Moist. And it turned out AMAZING! If you love banana treats, try our Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, and don’t miss our Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins.
This classic breakfast bread only needs one bowl, good-quality ingredients, and bake! Plus, it freezes beautifully too!
*This recipe will yield 2 or even 3 loaves, depending on the size of your bread pans. It gives you plenty to feed a crowd and freeze a bread or two.
Besides, our blueberry banana bread will complement any breakfast buffet table. It’s so good, that everyone might pass on the eggs with toast, and rather go for the second serving.
Ingredients Overview:
We used our favorite two 9 x 5 bread pans, for this recipe so you can share or freeze one. For a sheet cake, you can also make it with one large 13 x 9 Cuisinart sheet pan.

- plus, 3 large bananas
- and fresh blueberries
Adding Blueberries:
- Fresh bananas are what make this bread super moist.
- Adding some fresh blueberries inside and on top adds an extra decadent flavor that melts in your mouth.
- The blueberry flavor makes this bread irresistible.
How To Make It: (*full recipe card below)
Let’s talk about how to make this quick bread. We use one large mixing bowl, and our favorite a hand-held mixer. But if you prefer, you can use a whisk too.
Directions to Make Blueberry Banana Bread:
- Blend the First Half of the Ingredients: In one large mixing bowl, add the eggs, olive oil, sugar, vanilla extract, and sour cream. Blend with a hand-held electric mixer until smooth.
2. Mash the Bananas: Use a fork to mash the bananas, one at a time. Then add them to the mixture, and blend until the batter is smooth.
3. Add the Dry Ingredients: Measure the rest of the ingredients and blend them into a smooth creamy mixture. The batter will be thick.
4. Next Prepare the Blueberries: Place the blueberries in a small bowl, remember to reserve some to place on top of the bread. Toss in 1/2 tablespoon of flour and stir until the blueberries are coated evenly. Then gently fold them into the batter.
5. Pour into Bread Pans: Divide the batter into 2 baking pans. Top with some blueberries. Place them onto the middle rack in the oven and bake (see my notes below in the recipe card).
Options to garnish on top…
These blueberry banana breads are so good, they don’t need any embellishments. You can easily serve them warm or chilled. But, if you prefer to jazz them up, here are a few options:
- scatter powdered sugar over them.
- or a drizzle with a simple glaze on top.
Pro tips and tricks
- Keep in mind, that all ovens vary. Therefore, the best way to know when your loaves of bread are ready is when a toothpick inserted in the center of each bread, comes out clean.
- Never Throw Out Those Ripe Bananas! Remove their skins toss them into a zip-lock bag and freeze. Then you’ll have them whenever you want to whip up this quick bread.
- Allow the bread to cool in the loaf pans for at least 5 minutes before removing. Then allow them to cool completely before wrapping with clear wrap and storing.
Storing and Freezing:
- Best to wrap each bread with clear wrap, and tightly. Then store the loaves of bread in the refrigerator to keep them fresh longer, about 2 weeks.
- You can freeze banana bread too, and for up to 2 months.

Blueberry Banana Bread
The Ultimate Blueberry Banana Bread. This crowd-pleasing, classic breakfast bread shows us how blueberry banana breads can be a busy cook's best friend. All you have to do is whisk up an easy batter, bake and freeze!
Ingredients
- 1 cup olive oil
- 1 + 1/2 cups sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup (8-ounces) sour cream
- 3 large (about 2 cups) ripe bananas- mashed
- 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 tsp. baking soda
- 3 + 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup blueberries , and extra
- 1/2 Tbsp. flour
- powdered sugar, to garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150C).
- Grease THREE 8 x 3 loaf pans using 1 tablespoon of butter, or spray with cooking oil, dust with some flour, and set them nearby. Or, grease TWO 9 x 5 loaf pans.
- In ONE large mixing bowl, beat the sugar, olive oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and sour cream. Beat together with a hand mixer until well combined. Add the mashed bananas, and beat again for a few seconds. Next, add the cinnamon, salt, and baking soda, (hold the flour last) and beat until well combined.
- Beat in the flour, one cup at a time. Use a spatula to scrape down the sides. Beat on high speed until well combined, about 1 minute. The batter should be thick and creamy.
- Next, in a small bowl, measure 1 cup of blueberries and toss in 1/2 tablespoon of flour. Use a spoon to gently stir and toss the blueberries until they are covered with flour. Add them to the batter and gently stir the blueberries into the mixture. Do Not over-stir.
- Pour and divide the batter equally into the prepared baking pans. Sprinkle on top of each pan with a few blueberries.
- Place the loaves on the middle rack in the oven.
- BAKE for 1 hour for three (8 x 3 pans). OR Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes, for two (9 x 5 pans), or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Invert and remove loaves from pans, and allow to cool for an additional 10 minutes. Then while slightly warm, wrap loaves of bread tightly with clear wrap. Refrigerate. They will stay fresh all week long. NOTE: You can freeze the loaves of bread for up to 3 months. Before serving, allow the bread to completely defrost, transfer onto a serving platter, and sprinkle with powdered sugar on top.

I've never had the two together and I'm wondering why! The sour cream must make it so moist!
Yes so true! The sour cream also makes it very moist but I feel it's the amount of the bananas mashed that helps make this bread so moist. I have made it with less bananas and the texture was different- not as moist.
