What is Pancake Day or Fat Tuesday?

Today is Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras – the perfect excuse to indulge in all your favorite comfort foods. Traditionally, it’s a day to enjoy rich treats like pancakes and other festive dishes before Ash Wednesday ushers in the reflective season of Lent.

It’s a day of celebration around the world with Christians who observe the day before Ash Wednesday, known as Pancake Day or Fat Tuesday!

The term “Pancake Day” came about because it was a way to use up rich foods and ingredients such as eggs, milk, and sugar.

These rich foods are made for breakfast, dinner, and even dessert. Also, Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday.” The tradition of Fat Tuesday originated in France and Italy.

It is the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods for dinner– and before the ritual fasting of the Lent season, which begins tomorrow on Ash Wednesday.
